Guide for Nagoya University Members
Reading Materials
The GSID Library's books, journals, audio-visual materials, etc., are located in the following locations. In principle, the books are arranged by Nippon Decimal Classification (NDC).
Please note the following points when searching for materials.
- Please check the "Location" and "Status" of the materials by the Nagoya University Library Search (OPAC).
- A material whose Location in the OPAC indicates "GSID" or "GSID Stack" can be used.
- A material whose Location in the OPAC indicates "GSID Stack" is in the closed stack. If you wish to use it, please apply at the service desk (9:30-17:00).
- A material whose Location in the OPAC is "GSID ASCI ●●" can only be used at that overseas campus.
- A material whose Status is "in laboratory" is used in a professor's laboratory. If you wish to use it, please apply for a temporary return at the service desk.

If you want to use materials whose "Location" in the table below is "Stack room" or "Library office", please ask at the service desk.

How to use the Call Number Label
Call number labels are stuck on the spine of the materials to indicate the material's location and order.

are in the World Bank Publications' Section.
GSID Master Theses
- Only theses whose authors approved to be made public are available.
- Please fill out the application form at the service desk. In exchange for your ID card, you will receive a laptop with access to the master theses.
- Please browse the master theses in the library. You cannot take it out of the GSID library or save the data.
Borrowing
- For borrowing materials, you need a student ID card, staff ID card, or Central Library card.
- You cannot borrow any books if even one book is overdue.
- You can check your borrowing records and renew the period at [My Account] on Nagoya University Library Search (OPAC). The loan period can be renewed online only if there is no reservation within the return period.
- You can renew the loan period even if you bring the materials and your ID card to the service desk before the due date.

Short-time Loan for Copy / Overnight Loan
For Journals, Teaching materials, and Reference books, only a Short-time loan for copy or an Overnight loan is allowed. Please fill out the application form at the service desk.
- Short-time loan for copy: They must be returned during the opening hours of the day.
- Overnight loan: Please apply after 16:30, and must be returned by 10:30 on the following day.
Returning
- Please return the materials to the service desk or the book drop in front of the library by the due date.
- When returning fragile items such as video casettpes and discs, please do not put them in the book drop and return them to the service desk.
- Materials that you borrowed from other libraries, please return them to the libraries where you borrowed.
Reserving
- Reservation is available for the material on loan. Search it on the
Nagoya University Library Search (OPAC), press the "reserve" button and log in.

- When the material you reserved is available, we notify you via the E-mail you registered when you applied, so please come to the service desk to receive it as soon as you can.
- If you no longer need it, please cancel your application immediately.
Applying Temporary Return
- You can apply for a temporary return of materials that have been borrowed for more than a month, or materials that are in the laboratory. Please ask at the service desk. (Please note that it may not be available in some cases.)
- When the material you applied is available, we notify you via the E-mail you registered when you applied, so please come to the service desk to receive it as soon as you can.
- Return due date cannot be updated.
Photocopying
You can make photocopies of library materials under the Copyright Law.
- The copy machine in the GSID Library is for the exclusive use of the GSID faculty and students and requires a copy card issued by the GSID.
- If you are not GSID members, please apply for Short-time loan at the service desk and use the copy machines at your department, Nagoya University Co-op, convenience stores, etc.
- Please note that it may not be possible to make copies depending on the condition of the materials, usage restrictions, etc.
Copy Order and Loan Order
If a book or journal you want is not available in Nagoya University (Higashiyama campus), you can order copy of an article or a book from other libraries.
- Apply from "InterLibrary Copy Request" or "InterLibrary Loan Request" on the Nagoya University Library Search (OPAC). For details, please refer to the "Guide to Interlibrary Loan Services".
Using Other Libraries
Central Library and Other Department Libraries
- You can also use the Central Library and other department libraries. The circulation policies vary according to each library.
- For using materials of Tsurumai and Daiko campuses, Bioagricultural Library, you can apply for InterLibrary Loan service.
Libraries of National Universities or Joint-use Libraries in Tokai Area
A letter of introduction is not required if you present your student or staff ID card.
Other Libraries of Public/Private Universities
Some libraries may require a letter of introduction and an appointment in advance.
The letter of introduction can be issued at the Reference/Interlibrary Loan Desk (No. 2) on the 2nd floor of the Central Library.
Showing a student card or staff ID card is required.
Please apply as soon as possible.
Library of Institute of Developing Economies (IDE)
The Nagoya University members are allowed to visit Library of IDE and borrow their materials. For more details, please check "About the use of the Library of Institute of Developing Economies (IDE)".
Book Purchasing Request (for GSID students only)
- Before applying, please be sure to check the book holdings in the library by the Nagoya University Library Search (OPAC).
- Generally, it takes more than 2 weeks to select and accept. If you are in a hurry, please use the Interlibrary Loan service.
- Due to the budget, collection policy, etc., we may not be able to meet your request.
- For student requests, the library will ask your academic advisor for their opinion.
Please let us know the books you would like to add to GSID library from the request form.
